FACH SHEET

“COCKROACHES ARE BELIEVED TO BE THE ONLY CREATURES THAT WOULD SURVIVE A NUCLEAR EXPLOSION”.

Cockroaches are among the oldest surviving insect forms on the planet, and they have diversified extensively in the last 300 million years. Cockroaches are considered pest because they are closely associated with humans and commonly breed and feed in areas such as garbage, storage, pantry, sewage systems. Cockroaches pose both direct and indirect risks to humans and animals. Cockroaches have also been reported to enter the ear canal of sleeping individuals.

Cockroaches, their skid skins, and their droppings contaminate hundreds of thousands of pounds of stored food every day. Cockroaches are one of the most difficult pest to eradicate, due to their adaptability, their ability to quickly become resistant to insecticides and their prolific reproductive baits.

EXTERMINATORS COCKROCHE CONTROL

EVERY SITUATION IS UNIQUE, THERE IS NO SINGLE COCKROACH CONTROL PROGRAM THAT WILL WORK IN ALL CASES.

EXTERMINATORS SMART WAY ‘PACCP 2000’ PREVENTIVE COCKROACH MANAGEMENT SYSTEM BEGINS WITH A COMPREHENSIVE SURVEY AT YOUR PREMISES TO IDENTIFY THE BREEDING AND HARBORAGE AREAS.

The goal of ‘PACCP 2000’ Preventive Cockroach Management System is to prevent or reduce problems caused by Ants. ‘PACCP 2000’ is based on ecological, economic and social criteria and integrates multidisciplinary methodologies into Cockroach Management Strategies that are practical and effective to your home and/or your business while totally off-setting your ‘Carbon Footprint’ related to Cockroach Control.

KNOW YOUR PEST

Cockroaches are very primitive insects.

Their ancestors lived 200-350 million years ago in the Carboniferous Period, even before the dinosaurs

This geological period is sometimes called the “Age of Cockroaches” because they were so abundant.

At this time, the climate on the earth was warm and moist, ideal conditions for them to thrive.

Although climatic conditions are cooler and less humid now, present-day cockroach species are surprisingly similar to those preserved in fossils from the distant past.

SCIENTIFIC CLASSIFICATION FOR COCKROACHES FOR COCKROACHES

Kingdom Animalia

Phylum Arthropoda

Class Insecta

Superorder Dictyoptera

Order Blattodea

American Cockroach

The American cockroach egg case contains 14-16 eggs.

Nymphs emerge in about six weeks and undergo 13 molts over the next 18 months, before reaching the sexually mature adult stage.

During warm conditions, adult females produce an egg case in about one week and can live more than a year.

American cockroaches seem to have a tremendous potential for producing offspring. But because of cold winters in northern states, American cockroaches develop at a slower rate and produce fewer offspring than in southern states.

German Cockroach

The German cockroach has a tremendous capacity to produce offspring.

A female German cockroach produces an egg case (the scientific term is ootheca) containing 30-40 eggs.

The female carries this egg case for about three weeks until the day the eggs hatch. She then goes into hiding before dropping her egg case.

This behavior reduces possible harm to the female and her eggs.

The immature German cockroaches (nymphs) grow fast when conditions are favorable.

Nymphs emerging from the egg cases will molt (shed their skins) six or seven times in about 60 days.

After the last molt, adult cockroaches emerge fully winged and sexually mature.

COCKROACH HABITAT

With uncounted trillions of cockroaches walking on the earth, large percentages are never seen by humans. Most cockroaches live in forests, caves, burrows, and brush. The mammoth rhinoceros’ cockroach, native to Australia can be more than 3 inches long and live up to ten years.

In general, cockroaches adapted to living with people need four things to successfully live in a home.

They need water, food, shelter and warmth.

When we go about our daily activities (cooking, eating, bathing), we provide these requirements, which is why cockroaches survive so well with us.

Cockroaches generally will not survive very well in a vacant home.

Different cockroaches have slightly different requirements

COCKROACH FACTS

The world’s largest roach (which lives in South America) is six inches long with a one foot wingspan

Some female cockroaches mate once and are pregnant for the rest of their lives (bummer)

A cockroach can live a week without its head. The roach only dies because without a mouth, it cannot drink water and dies of thirst.

Cockroaches can run up to three miles in an hour. (Hey, it is no marathon, but it is not bad.)

Cockroaches can live without food for a month, but will only survive a week without water

Cockroaches can climb walls because they are equipped with a set of little claws on their feet designed for that very purpose

Crushed cockroaches can be applied to a stinging wound to help relieve the pain.
